11/17/02 Producers visit Pan Am Association Aloha Chapter
During the week of November 17th, project producers met with one of
Pan Am's largest and most dedicated employee organizations, the Pan
Am Association, Aloha
Chapter in Honolulu, Hawaii. Jeffrey Mills presented the plans for the
feature documentary film, On the Wings of Giants, to this group
during their November luncheon at the Waialae Country Club. Jeff thenmet
and interviewed many of the pioneers of the Pacific division who now
live in Hawaii: Rush Clark, Ed Swofford, Ellen Shikuma, Kaoru Watanabe,
Jack Ellis, Ernest Albrecht, and Allan Mosher.
Scouting
trips were also conducted in to the site of Pan Am's original flying
boat dock on the Pearl City Peninsula and to the final resting place
of Charles Lindbergh on the island of Maui. Mr. Lindbergh had been a
survey pilot, technical advisor, and board member for the company for
47 years. He spent his last days on the lush Hana coast. Today he lies
at rest on the grounds
of the Palapala Ho'omau Church in Kipahulu. The nearby limestone coral
church was built in 1857. Lindbergh's grave is under the shade of a
Java plum tree. Before he died, on August 26,1974, he sketched a simple
design for his grave and coffin.
